Some people are born to protest;
Rant and rail, at perceived injustice!
The holier-than-thou are thin-skinned;
At sligtest pretext, they bristle!

They set out to change the world -
The System is always corrupt!
Starving, deprived furious martyrs,
With passionate belief in their right!

The underdog is at his best
Fuming at an unjust System.
The chips are wedged deep in his shoulder.
He will never get rid of them!

That castle does best which does not fight,
As he dashes against its thick walls;
But allows him entry inside,
And, as King, has him installed!

They then plot to undermine his rule.
One person, System does not make.
The very persons he fought against
Are needed to lend the throne its strength!

No king can be an idealist;
Politics is not a much liked word.
He will be cause of his own downfall,
Or, join the shadows he could not fight!

He who cannot show two faces,
One inside and one to the world,
Is not fit to be king, or to rule:
That's a different kind of psychopath!

Kejriwal will go down fighting
In a blaze of his own glory.
They'll needle him to burn himself out,
And he will, lighting his own pyre!

Cow in the Paddock

Free to graze, in verdant pastures;
Free to move in sunny vales;
Free to rest in shady bowers;
Alone, or with others of my kind!

Meeting, with those who might wish to,
By the side of flowing brooks.
Happy to greet the Farmer who comes,
To collect his bounty of my milk!

Those were the days, now long gone.
Now I'm confined to the paddocks,
With a million other cows, bound,
To, I'm told, Freedom, within walls!

No brooks, No fields, No sunny vales.
No meeting, a chance encounter.
I'm shown Visions of open spaces,
Doing my Mission that's my work!

The mission is to produce the most;
More than other cows in their paddocks.
There are boards, keeping count, shouting loud.
One who bleeds the most, gets the reward!

Once a year, I get to escape,
To the vast, green, open pastures,
Bringing back memories of the days,
When we were happy in verdant bowers!

All the other cows in the land,
Are now similarly confined.
In return for verdant greens, and air,
They're fed, and told: This is what is Freedom!

My two-hundredth blog post

This post marks my two hundredth blog post since I started writing  in November of 2008.

It is good to reach a milestone,
A midway marker on the journey.
Arbitrary, in a continuum,
A number I infuse with meaning!

Random musings, notes to myself,
I thought fit to inflict on others.
I must admit it feels very good,
When some respond, proves that they read!

I don't know what two hundred means,
Except, I wrote, and will write more.
Writing also acts as a means,
To clarify, me, to myself!

Why this need to mark the journey,
When I don't know where I'm heading?
Why the need to look back and count,
How far it is, from the beginning?

How far does the road stretch ahead?
Maybe I don't really want to know.
'Tis enough: something to look forward,
Tomorrow again begins anew!

Why the "modern western" model of scientific research is faulty

Why the western model of scientific research is faulty, especially when it comes to research in medicine.  See article below:

After following one million women for ten years, the conclusion is that state of mind has nothing to do with health!  I have no comments on the research methodology - no doubt the researchers have followed all accepted norms of scientific testing.

But when the results fly against what you know to be true, it is time to question the model itself. When it comes to medicine, the research model doesn't work!

All religions have emphasised the connection between mind and bodily health. Yoga in its Yama Niyama says the same. Ayurveda and other medical systems have long ago recognised that state of mind, and happiness, have a big role to play in maintaining good bodily health. All traditional peoples have recognised this, it is part of wisdom that is handed down as the common heritage of mankind.

It is a matter of common observation that people who are depressed, etc.are susceptible to catch even a cold much faster; and other more serious ailments besides.

The last para is simply fantastic. Quote: "Peto said he doubted that the new study would change many minds because beliefs about the perils of unhappiness are so ingrained. "People are still going to believe that stress causes heart attacks", he said"!!!

When Salman Khan is acquitted of drunken driving, you wonder whether the whole Justice System has lost it. Similarly, when such conclusions are drawn, it leads us to wonder  - this is the science we have been depending upon to introduce all the new fangled medicines in the market, which are being pushed down people's throats - no wonder the world is becoming a much unhealthier place! The whole edifice is faulty!

The myth of cholesterol

See below article on the cholesterol myth being debunked.

This is not surprising at all. The whole cholesterol myth was fostered by the food industry. The medical industry then took over.

What is really funny is that a new set of myths will take over; will be 'supported' by so called research, and the public, poor sods, will start following those prescriptions!

Those who are on statins, the earlier you throw your tablets into the dustbin, the better. The same goes with several other redundant, harmful drugs of course.

When it comes to diet, the only rules we need to know are:

Avoid processed foods

Eat whole foods, grown in natural environs, without aid of chemicals

Cook them at home. That way, all the ills of factory food are avoided. This includes, cheap ingredients, chemicals, preservatives, fat of the wrong kind and too much; sugar of the wrong kind and too much; salt of the wrong kind and too much.

In case of meat, eat free range, what has been fed its natural food

For fish, eat wild river and sea fish, not fish with all prana lost due to eating fish chow in fish farms

Cook it yourself, or go to a local cafe or auntieji who procures from the market and cooks, as close to home as possible

Eat the same day. Never store cooked food overnight

Eat only that which will spoil, but before it spoils

Buy only what grows. Any processing should be what you do at home.

Milk that is pasteurized or homogenized is processed, hence harmful. So is 'table' salt, and refined oil. So is factory made atta.

Buy whole grains.

Don't count calories, nutrients, etc. It is not only harmful, it leads to the wrong conclusions.

Eat sparingly. At night, eat very sparingly or not at all.

Fast periodically. Contrary to what these idiots say, fasting is good. Most religions advocate it, for good reason.

Reduce meat in the diet. Reduce grains. Increase vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, sprouts.

Eat sparingly. After every meal, you should have enough space in the stomach for one full meal.

Don't forget to drink. Water, that is. Not soda, not beer.

Eat mindfully. With full attention. Chew your food properly. Let it assimilate into you. Don't watch TV while eating, focus on the food.

Simple rules. That was top of the mind, and I have left out the details, but should suffice!

Cholesterol is finally officially removed from Naughty food

The US government has finally accepted that cholesterol is not a 'nutrient of concern', doing a U-turn on their warnings

In the meantime of 40 years US Drug Industry in connivance with Health Department made over 1.5 trillion US Dollars by selling cholestrol lowering drugs. This fear probably caused death of a million gulliable citizen who believe the US drug industry. (My comment)

By Nikki Barr

Cholesterol has been on the "naughty" list of nutrients for nearly 40 years, with health officials warning us to stay away from high-cholesterol foods since the 1970s to avoid heart disease and clogged arteries.

"Full-fat dairy products and advocados are high in good fats."

But US officials have finally given the green light for a U-turn on previous warnings, which means eggs, butter, full-fat dairy products, nuts, coconut oil and meat have now been classified as "safe" and have been officially removed from the "nutrients of concern" list.

The US Department of Agriculture, which is responsible for updating the guidelines every five years, stated in its findings for 2015: "Previously, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended that cholesterol intake be limited to no more than 300 mg/day.

"The 2015 DGAC will not bring forward this recommendation because available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum (blood) cholesterol, consistent with the AHA/ACC (American Heart Association / American College of Cardiology) report.

"Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption."

"Eggs are no longer on the 'naughty list'. "

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee will, in response, no longer warn people against eating high-cholesterol foods and will instead focus on sugar as the main substance of dietary concern.

The 70s, 80s and 90s were the 'non fat' years, with the government warning people to limit the amount of high-cholersterol foods in their diets to avoid heart disease and strokes.

But nutritionists and scientists have long been campaigning for the U-turn, which started with introducing "good cholesterols" back into the 'safe zone'.

US cardiologist Dr Steven Nissen said: "It's the right decision. We got the dietary guidelines wrong. They've been wrong for decades."

He esitmated that about 20 per cent of cholesterol levels in your blood come from your diet, which means the rest is produced by your liver and is actually needed by the body.

Dr Chris Masterjohn added:"Since we cannot possibly eat enough cholesterol to use for our bodies' daily functions, our bodies make their own.

"When we eat more foods rich in this compound, our bodies make less. If we deprive ourselves of foods high in cholesterol - such as eggs, butter, and liver - our body revs up its cholesterol synthesis."

"Nuts were previously thought to contain too much cholesterol."

Sugar has now been identified as the "worst" food culprit for health problems, with GPs now focusing on weaning patients off the sweet stuff.

Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra, who works with group Action On Sugar, says a clamp-down on the food industry is next.

He said: "It's very clear that added sugar has absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever and, contrary to what the food industry want you to believe, the body doesn't require any carbohydrate for energy from added sugar.

"And we know the food industry have been spiking our food with added sugars. We also know that carbohydrates and particularly refined carbohydrates - so carbohydrates that lack fibre, sugar being one of them - have the biggest impact on insulin in terms of surges of insulin in our body. And insulin is a fat storing hormone." So, in summary, ditch your skinny latte for a full-fat latte and get some avocados down you.

The Real Truth about Cholesterol

The majority of the cholesterol in you is produced by your liver. Your brain is primarily made up from cholesterol.  It is essential for nerve cells to function. Cholesterol is the basis for the creation of all the steroid hormones, including estrogen, testosterone, and corticosteroids.  High cholesterol in the body is a clear indication
which shows the liver of the individual is in good health.

Dr. George V. Mann M.D. associate director of the Framingham study for the  incidence and prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its risk factors states: "Saturated fats and cholesterol in the diet are not the cause of coronary heart disease. That myth is the greatest deception of the century, perhaps of any century"
Cholesterol is the biggest medical scam of all time.
There is no such thing as bad Cholesterol!  Men of science have abandoned truth for money. Attempting to control cholesterol is a very, very dangerous practice that occurs in every hospital and medical clinic daily.

           By Ron Rosedale, MD
             "Statin Drugs Actually Increase Heart Disease"

So you can stop trying to change your Cholesterol level. Studies prove beyond a doubt, cholesterol doesn't cause heart disease and it won't stop a heart attack.  The majority of people that have heart attacks have normal cholesterol levels.
By K.L. Carlson, MBA
Cholesterol guidelines have been created to increase pharmaceutical profits, not to improve peoples' health.  I know from my experience as a pharmaceutical sales representative for a statin drug.  We were trained to emphasize to physicians the new lower LDL guidelines that were ostensibly created by health experts. The truth is the majority of the experts who created the lower guidelines have multiple financial ties to pharmaceutical companies.  One expert was found to have ties to ten drug firms

ONLY 15% OF CHOLESTEROL IS BEING  DONATED BY THE FOOD WE EAT.  If the fat content is less in our food we eat, our liver
Got to work more to maintain the level at 950 mg.  If the cholesterol level is high in our body, it shows the liver is working perfect.  Experts say that there is nothing like LDL or HDL.
…..  Cholesterol is not found to create block any where in human body.  Why does it create block only in heart, where as calcium sediments create
Block all over the body .. for example kidney, pancreas. Urinary bladder, gall bladder etc etc

Fantasy Worlds

All my friends' lives are perfect.
They're always happy, having fun.
All the things that are good, they do;
Eat, Play, Love, in airbrushed locales!

Pizzas in cheery roadside cafes.
Carefree jaunts in tourist boulevards.
Evenings in lively discotheques.
Always by the sea at sunset!

Branded lycra wear, morning jogs;
Cruising in river boats for the nights;
A life that is full of romance;
With partners that are equally nice!

Geared to arouse envy, it does!
It riles me, pierces my heart!
Everyone's having so much fun,
While, I through the day, have to slog!

Get the kids up in time for school,
Pack their lunch before I depart,
For my daily two-hour commute,
heading to full-day labor camp!

Through the day assailed with abuse,
Battered, beaten, shrunk, demoralised,
I head back home and creep into bed,
after dinner of cold leftovers!

But I have my revenge, I do!
My Instagram life is the best!
What I post there is fantasy,
To arouse envy in every heart!

On diet and medicine and health in general [1 Attachment]

Enclosed (at the end) is an article on why preventive medical check-ups are bad for you. And why avoiding processed foods is the first thing that you MUST do.

Nothing new here, as far as I am concerned. Am only attaching it to convince the skeptics. :-))

The entire edifice on which 'modern medical science' is based, is faulty - starting with the theory of health, to diagnosis, to treatment.

In order to arrive at decisions, it is always good to have some basic 'accepted truths' based on which things can then be fitted in, and which can aid you to make decisions. The ground rules I believe in (and have followed)  are: (not in any particular order; not even complete; my top-of-the-mind list):

1) Food in its natural form contains 'prana' or 'chi'. This prana needs to be maximum for optimum health.  Organically grown food has the maximum prana. Even within that, food that grows in unpolluted surroundings, where the natural prana is maximum, is best; for bangaloreans, maybe organic farm produce from the Ooty hills may be a good example.

2) When it comes to meat, the lesser you eat the better. This is not due to any moral considerations, but due to the fact that meat requires more processing, and requires the body to work harder to clean up and throw out the byproducts of metabolism. It of course, goes without saying, that the meat should be of free range animals, who are grass fed.

3) For all foods, the distance from the farm to the kitchen needs to be the minimum. Buy the raw ingredients and cook them yourself. Yes, cook. Yes, in spite of your busy schedules; and in spite of the fact that cooking is 'oh so old fashioned'; and of course we understand you are a busy person with many other commitments. Second best is to eat from a local restaurant (or darshini in bangalore) which cooks fresh food, and does not store anything overnight, primarily because they do not have cold storage facilities. By implication, food at five-star hotels is the worst, since they have all kinds of storage facilities to store the veggies, the meat, the intermediate sauces, etc. thus making the food most likely unfresh.

4) For all foods, the time taken from the cooking to the dining table must be minimum. For fresh juices, have them within five minutes of extraction. For normal cooked food, within hours; at the worst case, have it the same day and don't store it overnight. And yes, keeping cooked foods in the fridge is a terrible thing to do - you actually eat that stuff?

5) Avoid all processed food. Avoid all processed food. Avoid all processed food. This is a mantra that should be inviolate. Obviously life is all about not having rules cast in stone; you can violate this rule sometimes, but that should be, say, 10 percent of the time, or something  like that. Every time you eat processed food, look into the mirror and curse yourself. Slowly, you will get out of the habit. Smoking or consuming alcohol does no harm to the health, compared to what eating processed food does.

6) What is processed food?

Anything that comes from a factory. Anything that is not 'grown'. Buy only that which grows. And no, biscuits don't grow. They are made. Neither do noodles, Or ready to eat foods; or cool drinks. Anything that is branded and needs to be advertised does not grow, they are manufactured.

7) Any intermediate products that are 'processed' are best avoided; you should preferably process it yourself. Buy fresh whole grains, and get them ground at a local 'chukki'. Don't buy milk unless you know it comes to you from grass-fed cows, and has not been pasteurised or homeginized, both of which are deadly harmful to health. Where will you get that milk in a city, you ask? Well, stop having milk then. It is actually not required - it is an entirely redundant. And no, don't believe all that rubbish about why milk is essential for calcium.

8) You should avoid refined oils; buy cold pressed oils. Avoid 'processed table salt' or any other branded manufactured salt. Buy normal unprocessed sea salt, or himalayan rock salt. And don't even start on 'what about the iodine which salt gives me' kind of argument. Iodine was never intended to be part of salt by nature; and what was intended to be part of salt (80 odd trace minerals in the right proportions for the human body) is all removed by the processing. Chemistry is partly to blame. We are taught that salt is 'NaCl' - as if you can pass Na and Cl through a test tube and produce salt!

9) Now you know one more reason why processed foods should not be bought. Apart from the horrendous amounts of chemicals and additives for various kinds of reasons, they also use refined oil, refined salt, and refined everything. Horrendous to even contemplate!

10) Chains like McD's or Pizza Hut, commit all these crimes, and more. Avoid. And you say, Subway is ok, since they are healthy? Ha! It may be healthier than McD's or KFC, but that is not saying much, is it?

11) For cooking and in general, use ghee. A lot. And I mean it. Milk and milk products are bad, but ghee is not. Ayurveda has recommended ghee from ancient times. And yes, coconut oil is good for health. Very good. As is every other traditional oil, like til oil or mustard oil. Don't believe all that rubbish about cholesterol, MUFA, PUFA and all that other rubbish that the food industry throws at you.  Butter is also good for you. It goes without saying, like Krishna tells Arjuna win the Gita, that moderation is the key in everything you do.

Personally, I actually 'drink' ghee. Lots of ghee. At every meal. And am none the worse for it. And no, not necessarily because of health reasons. I just happen to love it!

12) When it comes to cooking, the heating process where water is combined to counter the heat, is best. So steaming is the best way to cook. Frying, or dry heat, like baking, is not so good. Stir fry is good since it retains a lot of goodness, etc. Use your common sense as a guide here. Obviously, using the microwave is a no-no.

13) If you have read thus far, stop and reflect on what you are eating daily. If you actually want to follow the above rules (and that is a big 'if'), then it is likely that everything you are eating is bad for you. Go back to the drawing board and reconstruct your diet!

14) Shifting the focus to medicine - most of the 'diseases' that are prevalent today are lifestyle illnesses. The only way to tackle them is to make lifestyle changes, in diet, sleep and exercise; in avoiding stress, etc. Don't even think you can 'cure' diabetes or control it by popping pills. Or for that matter, hypertension, kidney problems, or other problems of that nature. Apply some common sense here - how is it possible that you can go on abusing your body, and then pop in some chemicals most of which are potions that the body rejects, to set it right? If a stagnant pool is full of mosquitoes, do you make the water flow and expose it to sunlight, or do you douse it with DDT? Treat you body with some respect!

15) Avoid 'preventive' medical check-ups. Totally.

16) If you are caught in an accident rush to the nearest hospital. Fast. If you have something very acute, maybe you can visit the allopathic doctor to bring it immediately under control. He will give you some poisons which may help for immediate relief. Once that is done, try other medical alternatives , like maybe naturopathy, or ayurveda, or anything else. The fact that they are called 'alternative' medicine itself is a diabolical plot by the allopath lobby.

I can go on, but shall stop here. Most of what I have said here, goes against accepted conventional wisdom, or is impractical, right? Well, the first step is, think about it and see if it makes sense. If you accept that it makes sense, or least most of it does, then try slowly incorporating all this into your lifestyle.

In what way am I qualified to say all this, you may very well ask. My primary qualification is that I am not a 'doctor' or a 'nutritionist', that is a good and essential start; for the rest, you have to make your own conclusions.

Early Cancer detection check-ups - shocking indeed!

The TOI is carrying full page ads today from Apollo Hospital Group, advertising early detection cancer check-ups for every conceivable part of the body.

As it is, preventive medical check-ups need to be avoided. This is just taking the thing to a whole new level!

They'll make you screen for every disease,
hoping desperately to find something.
For hospitals were built with money,
and you,  my friend, are the guinea pig!

Cancer screening's the latest gimmick,
As if it's waiting to happen.
Diseases are life-changing things,
They strike! You don't go looking for them!

There's danger in early detection,
For no one knows the true progression.
Every symptom can be interpreted,
to mean threat to life, or dying soon!

Don't submit yourself to these hacks,
they'll probe and probe and find something,
to scare you witless, out of your life,
make you part of the patient machine!

Best avoid all medical check-ups,
It is your belief and your health!
Land up there only when things are dire,
For hospitals are places of death!

Ode to Sehwag

Gut and instinct count for something;
The Genius is awesome in full flow.
He's someone we can't understand,
Can only stand and watch in awe!

Courage to ignore convention.
Confidence in his own talent.
The Genius mocks the establishment,
Nor steadies; No use, advice to him!

Perforce casting a lonely furrow,
Honing his own talent and skill,
He has no textbook he follows,
Nor can we write one using him!

When he's in song, you stop and listen,
Don't parse his music into Notes;
For Genius is not sum of the parts;
It's more than that, a magical whole!

The Big Billion Sale!

It is raining offers,
The skies have opened up.
People with deep coffers,
Are pushing their products!

All things needed for life!
Reason for life itself!
Things I can't live without,
Which, till now, I didn't have!

Existence was a void,
Which now needs to be filled;
Can't think of life devoid
Of vital essentials!

The ads scream out at me,
I'm missing out on life!
Missing prosperity,
I reach out for my purse!

All my wishes are Wants,
All my Wants, desperate Needs!
All my Needs are for Now.
And Now is but a click!

All the products are rushed,
I consume by the morrow!
Once I buy and it's reached,
My hunger is for more!

More begat want for more,
A pity, could've bought more!
I just bought the day before,
Sigh! Yesterday is gone!

There'll be no void in life,
Since all gaps will be filled,
With things that I can buy,
Now I feel fulfilled!

Daffy-nitions by DG - Part 7

Blind Faith

For gymming, we consult the trainer;
For cardio, the ologist;
For diet, the nutritional mailer;
For every thing, there's a specialist.

Each of them is part of a food chain,
That leads back to money and profit.
Their motives lead to the outcome;
Sadly, it's us that's the target.

And we in turn have stopped to think,
Following experts of all kinds.
Our lives are run by everyone
But us; Faith is always blind.

Modi's oratorial tour of America

A great orator wows the crowd,
Cheering loudly to staged events.
Quotes by his speechwriters abound,
They've told him where to say it, and when!

You first declare Victory and Cheer,
Hope that the work will follow;
From the expectation and hype,
Something solid, from something hollow!

He's beating them at their own game;
Spin, in the land of spin doctors.
No one today wants the details,
First comes the Victory, and Honors.

His counterpart won the peace prize,
Not for past events, but future hope.
Let's wave to the cheering populace,
Come brother: Let us take a bow!

When you can't control the outcome,
Which is really the workings of fate,
Thump your chest and loudly proclaim,
All good things are due to you alone!

Why are we so sure that vaccines are safe and good for us?

See below link to article on a doctor in the UK who fought and won a long and protracted battle against the establishment on the subject of vaccines.

The current accepted wisdom seems to be to create vaccines for everything; these are essentially disease germs, albeit in a weakened form, combined with some other chemicals, directly injected into the blood thus bypassing the body's usual defense mechanisms. How can this be good, except in the rarest of rare cases?

When I was in Boston a few years back, I remember seeing posters in the subways showing a person sneezing - and alarmist words next to that - anyone would get scared looking at those. God! Someone is sneezing, we will also get infected. Rush. Rush and get the newest vaccination for the newest strain of cold virus, which of course keeps changing every year. Pump that poison into your body. And pay someone for it. And of course, anyone who so much as sneezes is a pariah; keep him away from us. This state of mind is constantly being promoted by the media and by the doctors.

Surely something is wrong somewhere. Human beings and "germs" have co-existed for millions of years. In fact, there are trillions of more germs co-existing with us within our own bodies at this moment; trillions more than the actual cells of our body in fact. If the body is healthy, there is no problem; it fights off all invaders including disease causing germs.

The key is to keep the body healthy, not in pumping poisons into the body in the name of vaccinations. There are billions of different disease causing germs out there, which vaccines will you take?

The answer, partly, seems to be whichever is the latest scare the media and drug companies have engineered, in order to create a mass panic - like sars, h1n1, ebola... :-)
